1818 edition
Most errors in the original text have been left uncorrected, and will be indicated in the notes. A few minor obvious typographical errors have been silently corrected; in two cases in Vol. II, Chapter 2, a reading from the 1831 edition is substituted, and this is indicated by the use of square brackets: [ ], as follows:
�Gower� is an error for �Goring�, corrected in the 1831 edition; �scene labours� in the 1818 edition is similarly corrected in the 1831 edition to read �the scene of my labours.�
